ISMILE Bellezza Nursery 1 Fieldtrip
Last March 15, 2018 the children of Nursery 1 were getting ready for their fieldtrip to Museum Macan (AKR Tower Level MM, Jalan Panjang No.5, Kebon Jeruk). Not only the children and the teachers are excited for the visit the Museum, but also the parent chaperone who helped us during the trip.
We spent an hour enjoying the magnificent art work by artists around the world. We had it in a very exciting way which is “Painting hunt”. So the curator gave us some clue about an artwork and with the help of the teacher, they need to look for the right art work. After which they can make their own stencil art and paper hat craft in the Children Art Space.
The children gained more knowledge about art appreciation and had their own experiences in making an art work. They also learn how to be independent and to follow the rules in the museum. Hope we can visit this place again.
ISMILE Bellezza Nursery 2 and Kindergarten 1 Fieldtrip
Fieldtrips give students educational experiences away from the regular school environment. Not only do fieldtrips provide alternative educational opportunities for children, they can also benefit the community if they include some type of community service. Fieldtrips give children a break in their routine. Children can look forward to and prepare for the fieldtrip for several days or weeks. Then, they get to spend the day in a different learning environment and can complete a lesson on the topic covered after the trip is over.
Beyond the classroom, far from worksheets, school fieldtrips have been important in the learning process for many children. N2 and K1 felt so excited as they head towards the venue of the fieldtrip on March 9. When they arrived at Faunaland in Ancol, awe and wonder marked in their faces as they see animals up close like lions, donkeys, bekantan (monkey originated from Borneo) and many others. The children couldn‟t take their eyes off the birds during the bird show. Some children were a little bit scared of the big bird espe-cially when it flew towards them, yet they stayed calm. The boat ride was fun-filled. Some children were singing as they rode. They even shared their guesses that in the lake, there are lots of crocodile. Children and teachers enjoyed the adventure as the incorporated the learning experience into fun.
ISMILE Menteng Nursery 1, Nursery 2 and Kindergarten 1 Fieldtrip
Fieldtrips in the formative years are one of the most important things teachers can provide for their students. As we all know, children learn by doing. They remember what they have personally experiences. In addition, concept development is optimized through active, explorative experiences. Field trips are a type of experiential learning that gets children away from the traditional classroom setting and into a new mode of learning. These not only expand children’s learning and experiences by providing them with hands-on experiences, they also increase knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live. (Nabor, Edwards, Murray, 2011).
Last March 5th2018, ISMILE Menteng’s Nursery 1 and 2 as well as the Kindergarten 1 classes had a wonderful time at PT. Sun-Indo Adipersada in Cileungsi, Bogor (Stuffed Toy Factory). The aim of the excursion was in line with the school’s program to provide real-world experiences that contribute to their understanding of the world – an awareness and appreciation of the processes that go behind the production of one of the things they used consistently during play – stuffed toys.
The highlights included riding on a big bus with peers, exploration of the manufacturing area, play time in their show room, and creation of their own stuffed toy. Despite the distance traveled, the children’s excitement prompted them to sustain their attention and stayed relatively calm all throughout the commute.
In the manufacturing floor, with their face masks on, the children braved the wide space and got to see first-hand all the steps involved in the production line. The areas they went through started with design, pattern-cutting, sewing, stuffing, coloring, and ended with the quality control division. It was enlightening how various materials and steps were necessary for the formation of our beloved stuffed toys.
The company’s showroom was like heaven on Earth for our little ones. Rows and rows of stuffed toys were within their grasp. Stuffed animals of various shapes, sizes, texture, and kinds were all on display! The children ran with abandon and glee as they played with such toys by themselves, or with their teachers and friends.
In making their own stuffed toy, the children were highly focused on getting the stuffing into their chosen animal. Little hands were busy pushing in blobs of cotton and pulling the thread closed. Each child got to select whether to take home a stuffed lion or an alligator.
Overall, it was an enlightening experience for both students and teachers alike. Lots of fun were had and a good number of children stated that they were having the best time and couldn‟t wait to come back again!
ISMILE Plaza Indonesia Fieldtrip
Field trips are one of ISMILE‟s annual events. We believe that field trips play a vital key in unlocking a child‟s learning experience. By going on field trips a child would be able to experience a more holistic and integrated picture of the topic given; it also enriches and reinforces sensory and intellectual inputs and develops visual literacy along with offering the child different cultural expo-sures. ISMILE Plaza Indonesia went to Museum Modern Art and Contempo-rary, also known as Museum MACAN. our visit to the museum, the children created sensory artwork, had a private tour and visited the famous infinity room which was accessed by entering into a darkroom.
As we strolled through the museum, the children were reminded of all the art works and projects they have made during the school year. From painting, experiments, 4D art, and even exploring colors and light the room was soon filled with excitement. Being able to make a direct connec-tion with the art works created a reality for the children. This experience sparked and enhanced their creativity, curiosity, logical thinking, explora-tion and self-confidence. The children were able to make predictions about how an art was made and logical reasoning to what message the artist was trying to deliver. Not only were they able to relate to the art works from an emotional and intellectual level but they were also able to relate academically. They identified shapes, colors, counting, and many more. The children had a day full of adventure, excitement and educa-tion. We created long lasting memories with our friends!
