Red and white filled the atmosphere as our little heroes proudly stepped into the spirit of Merdeka! This year’s Independence Day celebration at ISMILE Bandung was filled with excitement and pride. The children came dressed as Indonesia’s national heroes — from Ibu Kartini and Cut Nyak Dien to Kapten Pattimura, and even the first president, Soekarno. They showcased their costumes through a fashion show, some walking proudly on their own and others in pairs. This activity supported their confidence, encouraged expressive communication, and helped them embody the values of leadership and courage exemplified by their chosen heroes.
To further embrace the day’s spirit, the children also played Indonesian traditional games. From bakiak and tarik tambang to the classic makan kerupuk (joyfully played by the infant and toddler classes), each activity reminded them of the importance of cooperation and perseverance. The games not only strengthened physical development but also emphasized the cultural heritage of Indonesia, connecting children with traditions passed down through generations.
Beyond the traditional activities, additional games were introduced to enhance motor coordination, resilience, and peer collaboration. Teachers also participated, serving as role models in teamwork and perseverance. Together, they engaged in tarik tambang, sack races, and the kerupukeating contest with a fun twist, reinforcing a learning environment where adults and children grow together.
This celebration became a beautiful reminder that the spirit of independence is alive — not only in history, but in the courage, unity, and bright hopes carried by our young learners. By connecting cultural traditions with developmental learning, ISMILE Bandung continues to nurture children as future heroes of Indonesia.
