Bandung Newsletter December 2024 – January 2025

A new year of growth, Collaboration, and discovery | Christmas concert of ISMILE Bandung | Frosty Fun Winter Holiday Program

Welcome to the December 2024 - January 2025 edition of our Bandung newsletter! We have lots of exciting updates and stories to share this month.

Dear Parents,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope your holiday season was filled with joy, laughter, and meaningful moments with your families. As we begin this new year, I want to extend my warmest wishes for a year of health, happiness, and growth for you and your loved ones.

This year holds so much promise for our preschool, and I am thrilled to share an exciting development. I am deeply grateful to ISMILE for giving me the opportunity to visit Reggio Emilia, Italy, a place celebrated worldwide for its inspiring and innovative approach to early childhood education. My experience there was transformative and reinforced my belief that children are not just learners but powerful, creative individuals with boundless potential.

The Reggio Emilia philosophy emphasizes collaboration, dialogue, hands-on project work, and active listening—to children, to one another, and to the world around us. It is a reminder that education is a shared journey where relationships, curiosity, and exploration are at the heart of meaningful learning.

I am proud to say that ISMILE Bandung is already aligned with many of these practices. Loose parts play, encouraging children’s voices in projects, and fostering inquiry-

based learning are things we have embraced wholeheartedly. However, my time in Reggio Emilia has inspired me to refine and expand these practices even further. This year, I will work closely with our teachers to integrate these ideas more deeply into our classrooms, making them even more dynamic and enriching spaces for your children.

One of the most beautiful lessons from Reggio Emilia is the value of partnerships—not just between teachers and children but also with families. You, as parents, play an essential role in this journey. Your involvement, insights, and encouragement are vital to creating a thriving learning community for our children.

To further enhance our learning environment, I kindly ask for your support in collecting loose parts— simple items like buttons, bottle caps, shells, fabric scraps, or small wooden pieces. These materials may seem ordinary but become

extraordinary tools in the hands of our imaginative learners. Your contributions will help us create even more opportunities for open ended exploration and creativity.

As I reflect on this experience, I feel a sense of pride knowing that we are not just keeping up with global best practices in early childhood education—we are thriving. Together, we will continue to provide your children with meaningful and inspiring learning experiences that will shape them for years to come.

Thank you for your trust, collaboration, and support. I am excited about all that this year holds and look forward to building new memories and milestones together. Let us welcome this year with open hearts, curiosity, and a shared commitment to the joy of learning.

With gratitude and warmest wishes,
Miss Fem

Nafas To Install Clean Air Zones in 7 iSmile Pre-School Campuses in Indonesia

As pollution in Jakarta and many other Indonesian cities continues to get worse, Nafas has been appointed as the air quality partner for iSmile Family of Schools in Indonesia and is tasked with bringing healthy air quality to 7 campuses in Permata Hijau, Menteng, Kelapa Gading, Pantai Indah Kapuk, P. Antasari (for Alam Atelier & BazGym) and Bandung. As part of the partnership, Nafas will be providing healthy air quality management, analytics & reporting as well as leading educational programs for parents across iSmile, iShine, Alam Atelier and BazGym  to continue to raise awareness about air pollution and public health.

Over 800 students attend iSmile Family of Schools, one of the top pre-schools in Jakarta, Bandung and Bali. The dedication of iSmile administration to providing the optimal learning environment for its students extends to ensuring that healthy indoor air quality levels are always maintained.

For their schools that already have a Clean Air Zone, Nafas successfully reduced indoor air pollution by over 80% in classrooms at the Kelapa Gading campus in April 2024.  Unhealthy indoor air quality in schools provides a sub-optimal learning environment for children and long term exposure to PM2.5 reduces concentration, focus and can impair cognitive development. Nafas even published an article about this – The Smog Effect: How Air Quality Could Be Affecting Test Scores.

Clean Air Zones by Nafas are a subscription based B2B service which provides companies with air quality diagnostics, healthy air management, data analytics and real-time reporting of indoor pollution levels. The end to end service is the first of its kind in Indonesia, and already serves over 100 clients in offices, schools, small businesses and residential locations.
