In the heart of Italy, the city of Reggio Emilia stands as a beacon of innovation in early
childhood education. From November 18-22, 2024,I had the incredible opportunity to visit Reggio Emilia for a five-day professional development training, accompanied by Ms. Supiani, our Director, and Ms. Femia, the ISMILE Center Coordinator of Bandung. This enriching experience deepened our understanding of the Reggio Emilia Approach and provided us with valuable insights to bring back to our own schools.
The training was held at the Loris Malaguzzi Center, facilitated by The Reggio Children, the organization dedicated to promoting the Reggio Emilia philosophy worldwide. Through plenary sessions, workshops, and small group discussions, we engaged in thought-provoking conversations about pedagogy, children’s learning, and the role of educators.
One of the highlights of the training was meeting educators who are deeply committed to fostering children’s natural curiosity. Their dedication to observation, documentation, and listening to children’s ideas was truly inspiring.
