In this issue, get a sneak peek at the classroom highlights and many more.

Welcome to the July-September edition of our Menteng newsletter! We have lots of exciting updates and stories to share this month.
Better Together

After a number of Friday chapel spent in each of our classrooms, we finally had our first joint chapel on Friday, August 18, 2023. The children and teachers from all classes gathered at the gym, prayed and danced to praise songs together, and continued learning about “Politeness” (Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. – Matthew 7:12).

Through a short story book video, we were all reminded to treat other people respectfully by saying “thank you”, “excuse me”, “please”, and, sometimes the most difficult of all, “sorry”

During the month of September, we were learning about “Honesty” (An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship. – Proverbs 24:26). The teachers from all class levels took turns leading the sessions and sharing the message about the character we were focusing on. It indeed was a good opportunity for the children to get to know the other teachers and practice respecting them as well.

The Friday Chapel has then become one of the children’s most anticipated sessions of the week. In the following weeks, the children came in with bright, excited faces and enthusiastically wanted to listen to the stories about ISMILE’s monthly character focus.

In October, we will be focusing on “Obedience” (Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. – Ephesians 6:1) as we start off Term 2. Despite the school’s humble limited space, it was a delight to see the children enjoying the moment they got to sing and dance in the presence of the Lord with almost everyone at school.

“For where two or three are gathered in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20

WHAT’S A BETTER WAY TO LEARN PHONICS THAN TO IMPLEMENT IT IN REAL LIFE? WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR /T/ SOUND, WE ENJOYED USING OUR HANDS AND MAKING LOTS OF TEA. WHILE BREWING SOME TEA OUTDOORS, NOT ONLY DID OUR STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT LANGUAGE AND SPEECH, BUT THEY WERE ALSO EXPOSED TO DIFFERENT COLOURS AROUND THEM.

N2-B

THE N2B CLASS ENJOYED THE ‘BOOK DAY’ DURING THE CULMINATING WEEK WHERE THEY ALL DRESSED UP AS A CHARACTER FROM THEIR FAVOURITE BOOK WHICH THEY BROUGHT TO SCHOOL TO SHARE AND READ TOGETHER WITH THEIR CLASSMATES. IT WAS SUCH A DELIGHT TO WATCH THEM MAKE AN ATTEMPT AT READING THE STORIES AND ROLE PLAY THEIR CHARACTERS.

THE CHILDREN CAME TO SCHOOL WEARING THEIR BEST COSTUMES AS DIFFERENT CHARACTERS FROM MANY BOOKS. THEY ENJOYED LISTENING TO THE CLASSIC STORY OF “LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD.”

Nafas To Install Clean Air Zones in 7 iSmile Pre-School Campuses in Indonesia

As pollution in Jakarta and many other Indonesian cities continues to get worse, Nafas has been appointed as the air quality partner for iSmile Family of Schools in Indonesia and is tasked with bringing healthy air quality to 7 campuses in Permata Hijau, Menteng, Kelapa Gading, Pantai Indah Kapuk, P. Antasari (for Alam Atelier & BazGym) and Bandung. As part of the partnership, Nafas will be providing healthy air quality management, analytics & reporting as well as leading educational programs for parents across iSmile, iShine, Alam Atelier and BazGym  to continue to raise awareness about air pollution and public health.

Over 800 students attend iSmile Family of Schools, one of the top pre-schools in Jakarta, Bandung and Bali. The dedication of iSmile administration to providing the optimal learning environment for its students extends to ensuring that healthy indoor air quality levels are always maintained.

For their schools that already have a Clean Air Zone, Nafas successfully reduced indoor air pollution by over 80% in classrooms at the Kelapa Gading campus in April 2024.  Unhealthy indoor air quality in schools provides a sub-optimal learning environment for children and long term exposure to PM2.5 reduces concentration, focus and can impair cognitive development. Nafas even published an article about this – The Smog Effect: How Air Quality Could Be Affecting Test Scores.

Clean Air Zones by Nafas are a subscription based B2B service which provides companies with air quality diagnostics, healthy air management, data analytics and real-time reporting of indoor pollution levels. The end to end service is the first of its kind in Indonesia, and already serves over 100 clients in offices, schools, small businesses and residential locations.
